“Legacy Wall Design at Wayne State”
Exhibit Title: Leonard Woodcock Honorary Wall
Client: Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University
Date: 2019
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Concept
Wayne State University needed a legacy wall design to celebrate the life of Leonard Woodcock. Woodcock’s journey began as a Detroit machinist. He rose to become the United Auto Workers (UAW) President and eventually a U.S. Ambassador.
Throughout his career, he remained a champion for civil rights and Detroit affairs. We were tasked with turning this storied history into a permanent honorary wall mural.

Process
We utilized the UAW logo as the visual anchor for this legacy wall. The logo “halos” his portrait before branching into spokes that define his life’s work. To give the installation a modern, architectural feel, we utilized:

Site-Specific Activation: Located in the Reuther Library, the final design transforms a transitional space into a landmark of institutional pride.
Dimensional Wall Graphics: A combination of vinyl and 3D PVC prints creates a tactile experience.
Industrial Storytelling: We pulled colors and gear-inspired shapes directly from Detroit’s automotive history.
